Somerset

From its cosmopolitan cities to vibrant green woodlands, caves, cycle routes, beaches and waterfalls, the UK’s seventh largest county offers a versatile world that is full of surprises.

From City to Countryside

Somerset offers a diverse playground of exciting outdoor pursuits and peaceful nature walks, lively cities with unbeatable retailers, entertainment, and some of the best food in the country, leisure parks, reservoirs, and the UK’s No.1 wildlife and safari park. You can live here for years and barely scratch the surface and it is a great place to raise a family.

In West Somerset, you have Exmoor National Park, famous for its wild deer and horses, spectacular coastline, and rugged moorland, it is a truly special and unique part of the UK that has been shaped by people and nature for centuries.

 

In the Northeast you have the enchanting City of Bath, the only historic town in Europe granted World Heritage status by UNESCO due to its Roman remains making it a cultural site - a must-visit! Bath also has excellent links to the creative hub that is the city of Bristol, getting you there in under 20 minutes on the train.

The Commute

Rail services are provided by the West of England Main Line through Yeovil Junction, the Bristol to Exeter Line, the Heart of Wessex Line which runs from Bristol Temple Meads to Weymouth, and the Reading to Taunton Line.

The key train operator for Somerset is Great Western Railway, and other services are operated by South Western Railway and CrossCountry.

Bristol Airport, located in North Somerset, provides national and international air services.

Things to Do in Somerset

If you’re an adventurer, then Somerset offers a ton of activities against a backdrop of nature. Head to the Mendip Hills where you will find one of the UK’s largest outdoor activity centres and family adventure campsites.

Or cycle the scenic Strawberry Line to Cheddar Gorge, explore its ancient caves, sample its famous cider and cheddar cheese, ending the day with a well-earned roast and pint at one of the many traditional English pubs in the area.

Take a shopping trip and soak in hot springs in Bath. Or hop on the train to Bristol and visit one of the city’s many art exhibitions, street food stalls and walk around the historic harbour. You will never run out of things to do here.
